Biography
The original Route U.S.M.C is a relatively new one, co-founded in 1994 by our current Treasurer and past President, Charles McMillan. In 1999, we incorporated as a non-profit organization. Our membership has included professionals with college degrees, a priest, as well as law-enforcement personnel.
Our membership has encompassed many nationalities.
The club has two goals in mind.......the true enjoyment of riding together and contributing so that we can make a difference.
We recognize the importance of giving back to the community.
1996, we sponsored our fist annual Unity Service. The purpose of this service is to recognize injured or fallen motorcyclists; to promote safety among motorcyclists; and to promote unity among motorcyclists, whether they belong to a club or ride solo.
We collect foodstuffs to make Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter baskets for those less fortunate. But we don't just wait for the holidays to give. We also donate clothing and toys to children throughout the year, and have provided costumes for local church dance troupe.
Our club is a member of Southern California Motorcycle Rider, which acts as the governing body of over 30 clubs in the Southern California area. Many of our female members are active in the Ladies of Southern California Motorcycle Rider, which is a charitable organization that donates money to Breast Cancer and Sickle Cell research via fund-raising benefits.
We also maintain relationships with other motorcycle clubs in Southern California, attending their club nights, dances and other functions, and they, in turn, support us.
Our current President is Steve Pulliam.
Some of The Original Route 66 member have ridden as far as Chicago, Kansas City, New Orleans and Florida.
Some of the strengths of our club are:
1. We are a family oriented group. Many of our
members are couples.
2. We welcome both male and female members into our
group. Women enjoy all
the privileges and opportunities in The Original Route U.S.
66 M.C., which includes
holding elected office.
3. We have a strong sense of community.
4. We enjoy riding together, long or short distances.
Our long-term goal is to establish chapters of The Original Route U.S. 66 M.C. in cities along Route 66, which goes from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA.
The Majority of our member ride Gold Wings, but having a Gold Wing is not a requirement of joining our club. Some of the other motorcycles include Honda's, Suzuki's, Kawasaki's, etc.
The only requirements to join the Original route U.S. 66 M.C. are that you own a motorcycle that is well maintained, licensed and insured. and you love to ride.
Our motto:
"WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH A POSITIVE FORCE.
OUR STRENGTH IS IN OUR MINDS, HEARTS,
AND SPIRIT OF TOGETHERNESS......
WE ARE ONE"
